The Inspiration Station
This was a university-set brief that tasked me to select a target audience and create a piece of communication design that captures the content in a new and exciting way.
My solution was to convey the story and adventures of explorer and wheelchair user Cory Lee, in hope of inspiring a new audience of children and young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities, that they too can achieve great things.
I have created a series of illustrations that depict a sensory exhibition that aim to turn the user into the explorer based on the adventures and experiences of Cory. The dome takes the user on a unique journey throughout five different interior domes, each representing a place that Cory has visited. The exhibition is also in partnership with AFK, a national charity who work to prepare young people for the future, with a vision for 'a world where all young people get to lead a life they choose'.
Cory captures all of his exciting adventures on his blog 'Curb Free with Cory Lee'. He offers advice, talks about wheelchair friendly locations and his top tips for travelling!
(Room 1) Inspired by the Eureka Skydeck - a suspended glass cube surrounded by calming glistening lights that represent the city, with interactive mirrored panelling to create holographic reflections.
(Room 2) Inspired by Iceland - The user is taken on a walk through cold and icy blue room, featuring sensory objects that create a stimulating environment, encapsulating the sights, textures and sounds that Cory Lee described on his blog.
(Room 5) Inspired by the Amazon Rainforest - This room is filled with greenery and digital displays to recreate the jungle environment, capturing the sights and sensations of Cory's experience.
(Room 4) Inspired by the Georgia Aquarium - This room takes the explorer through a running water feature with surrounding jelly fish constructed of glowing optical fibres, and textured rock forms and plants.
A leaflet provides the audience with information regarding Cory Lee as well as directions for the exhibition.
Branded badges remind the user of their journey and accomplishments.
