This project was a response to a self initiated brief. The challenge was to select a book cover for redesign and create supporting illustrations in any media of my choosing.

I decided to redesign the cover for Sally Rooney's hit novel Normal People, paired with illustrations that run throughout the book. Normal People follows the story of Connell and Marianne, two teenagers attending the same high school in Sligo Ireland, who couldn't be any more different. Connell is popular and well-liked whereas Marianne is lonely and private. However fate brings the pair together as they journey through many different life experiences.

The design has been created in black and white to represent the contrast between Marianne and Connell's relationship, but to also show how well they can work together. I opted for a sleek, clean and minimal aesthetic with a Forget-Me-Not flower theme to symbolise the character's true love for one another, their memories and their special connection.
